Journal Entry 5 May 2009: Favour from the Government..Pray Lah!
Scripture: Ezra 7
27 Praise be to the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put it into the king's heart to bring honor to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem in this way 28 and who has extended his good favor to me before the king and his advisers and all the king's powerful officials. Because the hand of the LORD my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.
Observation
A small investigation of history needs to be made as to what has happened in the past few generations.
Daniel was alive during Cyrus the Great (Cyrus #2) & Darius,
Then Esther married Artaxerxes1,
Ezra and Nehemiah during Artaxerxes 1,
So you can see that the Jews have already been faithfully serving in the courts of the king,
Prime Minister (Daniel via test of fire)
Queen (Esther through a test of Faith),
Cupbearer (Nehemiah Personal Relationship)
Teacher (Ezra was probably not only teacher to the Jews but also to Babylonians).
We can gain favour from the government not by the clothes we wear or status we hold, but the faithfulness of our service. And to get there, it needs not bribery or to be confered through unjust methods. Observe Daniel & Esther. Judging by Daniel's & Esther's character, they would not just recommend anyone unless they were trusted, so that he/she would serve the king or teach the king's people.
Application
We all need to look beyond position and power, because it doesn't guarantee safety or responsibility. Relationship and trustworthiness does. With position and power that is earned through trust and relationship, we will have no fear. Even at any lowly position, we can still lead, and there show that we can be trusted.
We need to stop being cynical that only a certain people group can get what they want. We also need to pray we will get favour from a certain people group by earning their trust and build a relationship with them.
Response
Lord, guide us your nation to see that all men created equally and have access to favour from the powers that be and so that we can be part in leading this nation justly. In relationship we can have access to you Lord, so teach us how to build relationships with people in power so that we can also gain favour with them. Lord you can make things possible so that we can all make our nation, a nation of great exploits.
