Journal Entry 29 July : Bribes Of Fools
Scripture:
Deutronomy 16
18 Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the LORD your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly. 19 Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous. 20 Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you.
Observation:
Being such a short passage, I find the whole passage itself applicable. But what really popped out was this "Do not accept a bribe, for bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous".
How true even from back then. Bribes has a deep seated influence in the life, for at the core of it has been greed and wanting more for oneself. So that those who "have" will always be able to oppress those who "have not". What does this teach the "Have Nots" , that through bribery things are achieved?
Eventually a "Have Not" may one day become a "Have".. but by what means?
Truly bribes (greed, love for money) blinds us from truth, greys the lines, thins the borders, of EVEN the wise.
Once caught in it.. it's very hard to escape.. for it has bound you .. till you are one day shamed for taking it.
Application:
How do we recognise bribes even in it's littlest of forms. How do we differentiate bribe and rewards?
Always look at the bigger picture.. Personal gain, at the expense of another's loss?
OR Mutual gain for the benefit of all? I think these are simple rules.. And we need to qustion it on a daily basis. Check against the Word Of God each day.. you will gain wisdom.
Response :
Open my eyes Lord, I want to see Jesus .. the Author of Truth and Perfector of my faith! AMEN!
