Boundaries...
I guess.. it's never easy to write about boundaries.. because when we try to draw a line, some people would have already expected that they are within their boundaries.. but in truth.. they are not.
When we put boundaries these are areas where others should not enter, like for instance in a marriage.. when 2 ppl are married, how are their lives knitted together should not be torn by the inclusion of others.
Once the freedoms within singlehood can no longer be permitted into a marriage (and vice versa)
So in speaking to different ppl depending on which side of the boundary, we have to respect the boundaries that have been set by the single or the marrieds.
For example
Singles don't like to be asked
- So when's your turn?
- When are you gonna settle down? What's wrong with you?
- Why are you so picky?
Marrieds don't like these statments
- So when's your turn? esp about kids
- How's your husband/wife? especially the if it's the single of the opposite gender that's asking, even if it's out of genuine concern
- You've changed. Of course I've changed. I'm married
I guess this will be a lifelong battle that we have to learn to be aware and yet not oversensitive about, we must guard the areas of our lives because they are precious to us and not let anyone or anything take a foothold in it.
Learn to take one stride at a time, and recognise ppl will make these mistakes and ask these questions because they don't know their boundaries..
